Scroll

The Municipality of Cabanas is located in the northeast of the province of A Coruña. It is part of the Eume region, and adjoins neighbouring Fene to the north and the west, A Capela to the east and the Ares estuary to the south and Pontedeume and Monfero town councils.

The population of Cabanas is spread across seven parishes: Regoela, Salto, Laraxe, Puerto, Cabanas, Soaserra and Irís.

In the southern part of the council the landscape, from west to east, is marked by its beaches, cliffs and marshes in the parishes of San Martiño de Porto and Cabanas, and the valley of the river Eume, wider in the parish of Iris and narrower in Soaserra, where it is part of the Eume canyon.

To the east is where the mountains lie, marking an orographic limit with the town council of A Capela, where the highest peaks are found, notably the Pico del Aguila, which at 474 meters tall, is the highest mountain.

The crown jewel, however, is the Parque Natural das Fragas do Eume, which is the most important coastal Atlantic forest preserved in Europe and where a large number of native species are preserved. Nature splendor at its best!
