Fourth stage from Ferrol

Betanzos - Bruma

  • DIFFICULTY Medium
  • LENGTH 24.1Km
  • ESTIMATED 8h
The

Betanzos - Bruma stage is the most demanding, but this does not indicate that it is very difficult. Even so, it is the hardest for most pilgrims. As soon as you leave Betanzos over the bridge of As Cascas, a casual survivor of the war against Napoleon's soldiers, the first uphill begins. Mountains, forests and three rural churches describe the route.

These three churches are those of Cos, the Santuario Nosa Señora da Saleta (located in Presedo, the vegetation prevents it from being seen but it is only 100 metres from the English Way) and the church of Leiro. In addition, we should add a humble chapel that stands in a setting with tables and benches that the pilgrim is grateful for: the chapel of As Travesas. And it is precisely in this village where the two branches of the English Way meet, the one that starts in Ferrol and the one that starts in A Coruña.

There are only a little more than two kilometres to reach the public hostel of Bruma. Take care here, as for a stretch you walk along the side of the main road. Once in Bruma it is practically unheard of not to take a photo in front of the chapel of San Lourenzo, which is what remains of the pilgrims' hospital that existed in medieval times.
