During this route that runs next to the river Lambre, we can see the ‘pazo’ of Montecelo or the church of San Pantaleón das Viñas and the Romanesque church of Tiobre that is an obligatory stop.
Camino Inglés through hostels
Before the pilgrim lies a descent through vineyards from which came a wine that enjoyed great fame and was much sought after by the British Navy. From there, a climb starts up to a neoclassical temple – very unusual in Galicia: Nosa Señora do Camiño, also called Os Remedios. Crossing the old bridge over the Mandeo, we enter Betanzos through the gate of A Ponte Vella (Old Bridge), one of the five of the old city walls. A visit to its churches is a must, especially the church of San Francisco, with the cenotaph of Fernán Pérez de Andrade, which is recognised as being the best preserved in Galicia. Another must on the list is to sample the gastronomic delights this beautiful town offers.
