Brasa de Beche: Stellar Network Excellence Award

The Association of Municipalities of the English Way awards the Stellar Network's excellence accolade to 'Brasa de Beche' in Abegondo.

- The president of the association, Bernardo Fernández, praised "the quality of the product, the professionalism, and the hospitality" of this establishment that welcomes pilgrims from all over the globe.

O presidente da Asociación de Concellos do Camiño Inglés, Bernardo Fernández, entregou ao establecemento Brasa de Beche (Abegondo) o galardón de excelencia por estar valorado entre os mellores locais da Rede Stelar.

It is the second establishment on the English Way to receive this distinction following Casa Avelina, in Carral. Fernández highlighted the establishment's "humane treatment, product quality, professionalism, and hospitality towards pilgrims from across the world traversing the English Way".

At the award ceremony, held at the establishment itself, were present, in addition to Bernardo Fernández, the honorary president of the association, Manuel Mirás; the mayor of Abegondo, José Antonio Santiso Miramontes, and the mayor of Ordes, José Luis Martínez Sanjurjo.

Regarding the English Way, which grows annually, Fernández valued "the coordination between the administrations and the involved municipalities to offer a quality route".

Manuel Mirás, honorary president of the Association of Municipalities of the English Way, considered Brasa de Beche "an example of sustainable tourism, with the establishments of the Stellar Network becoming increasingly recognised and valued".

The mayor of Abegondo, José Santiso, expressed "gratitude and pride for this recognition in our municipality", referring to "the innovative tourist complex we are creating at the Beche Reservoir". Lastly, the mayor of Ordes, José Luis Martínez Sanjurjo, added that "this distinction recognises well-done work".

Brasa de Beche opened in 2022, is a kilometre zero restaurant that champions local produce and Atlantic cuisine. It is one of the highest-rated establishments of the Stellar Network, consisting of tourist locales in various villages along the Jacobean route. This network is driven by the Association of Municipalities of the English Way in collaboration with the Provincial Council of A Coruña.

The Stelar Network

The Stelar Network is a project initiated by the Association of Municipalities of the English Way, in partnership with the Provincial Council of La Coruña, to form a network of tourist establishments in each of the municipalities through which this Jacobean route passes.

These venues are committed to excellence and quality in pilgrim care, for which they must meet a series of criteria related to sustainability, the use of local agricultural and fishery products, and service quality.

The Association of Municipalities of the English Way comprises 16 municipalities through which this Jacobean route runs: La Coruña, Abegondo, Betanzos, Cabanas, Carral, Fene, Ferrol, Mesía, Miño, Narón, Neda, Ordes, Oroso, Paderne, Pontedeume, and Santiago de Compostela.
